Sabre One

Serial Number 282-001 is not only the first Sabreliner ever produced; it also is the world's first business jet.

The aircraft was originally used as a demonstrator by North American Aviation's marketing arm, Remmert-Werner of St. Louis, in 1963 and early 1964 to showcase business jet flying to corporate pilots.  At a May, 1963 demonstration symposium held in Pompano Beach, Fla., 282-001 made 14 demonstration flights in two and a half days, accumulating 94 take-offs and landings from a 4,000-ft runway.  It was later purchased by Air Reduction Company as its first business jet.

Sabreliner Corp. reacquired and refurbished the aircraft in 1996 and fittingly named it Sabre One.  The aircraft received avionics and systems upgrades, a new interior and fresh paint at the Perryville facility where a number of the mechanics who originally worked on Sabre One helped to refurbish it.  Sabreliner has proudly operated Sabre One since 1996 as its own corporate jet.

Among other key features, the aircraft has been updated with a new GNS-XLS Global Positioning System.  Interior modifications include the first composite side panels installed in a Sabreliner Model 40, which reduces the total weight of the aircraft by more than 100 lbs.  New style window shades by Lou Martin and Associates help give the interior an up-to-date appearance.  The aircraft is painted with a white base coat and includes curved accent stripes in the company's corporate colors of blue and grey.  The aircraft's name, Sabre One, is featured prominently on the JT12 turbine engine cowling.
