Sabreliner Corp. Awarded Contract for T-34 Major Inspections
Sabreliner Corp. has been awarded a four-year contract by Sikorsky
Support Services, Inc. (SSSI) to perform Aircraft Condition Inspections
in support of the U.S. Navy fleet of T-34 aircraft. SSSI is the service
subsidiary of Sikorsky Aircraft Corp., a United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX)
company.
The first T-34, which has long been the primary pilot training aircraft
in which Navy, Marine and Coast Guard pilots learn to fly, was inducted
by Sabreliner in October. Program inspections typically involve partial
aircraft disassembly, inspection, repair and repainting to Navy specifications.
Sabreliner is performing the inspections at the company’s Perryville,
Mo. facility where the volume of new work may prompt the company during
the next year to add as many as 50 workers to its existing workforce,
officials said.
The T-34 “Mentor” remains the Navy’s primary trainer
more than five decades after the basic aircraft was introduced. The
aircraft is a single-engine, two-seat trainer based on the Beechcraft
Bonanza but incorporating conventional tail control surfaces rather
than the Bonanza’s signature V-tail. The Navy flies approximately
275 T-34s.
SSSI supports military and civilian aircraft operators with aviation
maintenance, logistics and technical services. Sikorsky Aircraft Corp.,
based in Stratford, Conn., is a world leader in helicopter design, manufacturing
and service. United Technologies Corp., based in Hartford, Conn., provides
a broad range of high-technology products and support services to the
aerospace and building systems industries.
Historically recognized as the original equipment manufacturer of the
renowned Sabreliner series of military and business jet aircraft, many
of which were completed in Perryville, Sabreliner Corp. is now an acknowledged
leader in aviation production support, and is a provider of civilian
and U.S. government aviation services. The company has more than 350
employees and 325,000-square-feet of aviation maintenance, manufacturing,
processing and repair facilities in four locations in Missouri and Kansas.
Sustainment of aging aircraft is an expertise of the company.
